The
David Regan Orchestra is an exciting and modern 16-piece big band
led by American alto saxophonist David Regan. This collection of
Switzerland's top jazz musicians is
a much needed addition to the European jazz scene and is making a major
impact with its powerful sound and subtle artistry. The band has
performed concerts in:
Basel: The Bird's Eye, Unternehmen Mitte, Carambar and Em
Bebbi Sy Jazz Festival
Zurich: Moods
Weil-am-Rhein: Grün 99 Festival
Bern: Bellevue Palace Hotel
Rheinfelden: Q4 Jazz Club/Hotel Schützen
The
David Regan Orchestra has also been featured on the Swiss television program
Fensterplatz (SF1).

Several
highlights over the years include concerts with internationally recognized
guest artists, including: Bob Mintzer (tenor saxophone), Steve Wilson (alto saxophone), Brad Leali
(alto saxophone), James Zollar (trumpet) and multi-instrumentalist Scott Robinson performing Bob Brookmeyer's
"Celebration Suite".
The
repertoire includes the finest arrangements available from Thad
Jones, Duke Ellington and Count Basie and contemporary arrangers
such as Bob Brookmeyer, Bill Holman, Jim McNeeley, Tom Pierson and
Rich DeRosa, in addition to compositions/arrangements from current
and former band
members Matthias Spillmann, Carlo Schöb and Dave Montreuil.
David
Regan graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in New York where
he studied saxophone with Joe Allard. As a featured member of the
college jazz band he performed with guest soloists Randy Brecker,
Bob Mintzer, Woody Shaw and Phil Woods in concerts at 7th Avenue
South and the Village Vanguard. He continued his studies on
saxophone, flute and clarinet with George Coleman and Danny Bank.
David
is a gifted musician and composer and has led his own groups in
American and European jazz clubs. His saxophone playing has been
featured in television and radio commercials for Migros, Swatch and
Kuoni Travel. He has also performed with The
Fusionaires, The Four Tops, The Temptations and Natalie Cole.
Currently,
he is busy with his own jazz quartet and as
the leader of two Big Bands: The David Regan Orchestra and the SMZ Big Band. Additionally, he
is a professor of music at the Zürich Hochschule der Künste as
director of the big band program and a private music teacher at the Zürich
International School.
